At the upcoming MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) exhibit featuring work by Todd McFarlane, a few pieces of original artwork from our upcoming Spawn Animation release will be on display.

Six black-and-white storyboards will be featured, along with four finished boards with never-before-seen backgrounds, characters and Spawn. We have not previously revealed how Spawn will look in this new animation project, so this is an exciting opportunity if you are one of the lucky few able to visit this exhibit.

Each of the boards on display present a different aspect of the project. We show you the intense use of black and dramatic lighting, something uncommon in animation. We attempt to show the unique camera angles chosen to help tell the story - an element of feature filmmaking not always used in animation. In a close-up of Twitch we are showing unique character design, partially for a bit of a new look for Twitch, and partially for a new look for animated characters in general. More often than not, animated characters are round and bubbly -- think Saturday morning cartoons. We are trying to steer away from Saturday morning cartoon characters, and go sharp and jagged looking. In this project, we attempt to show humans as realistically as possible, not necessarily as beautiful as possible. In yet another board we show two new characters as we demonstrate our use of camera pans and quick cuts, again showing something usually saved for moving making, not a TV show, as we are hopeful as this project will become. And finally, we show Spawn as a CG character on a 2D background -- a first for us that we are incredibly excited about.

So as you can see we, provide a really nice overall view of what to expect from Spawn: Animation in 2006. The MoCCA exhibit, "Todd McFarlane: A Retrospective," will be showing from February 25 through May 1, 2006 in New York.
