These days, Johnny Damon has a lot of fans rooting for him. Damon is on a seven-game hitting streak heading into the weekend with the division title on the line. Of course, he wasn't always so popular; he found his niche through his signature look and his clutch power-hitting for the Boston Red Sox. Both of these traits qualified him for a McFarlane's Sports Pick. Turns out, not only are we a fan of Johnny Damon, he has a soft spot for us, and his new action figure.
Check out our exclusive interview with Damon and click on the link below for the chance to win an autographed copy of his book, Idiot: Beating "The Curse" and Enjoying the Game of Life.
Q & A WITH JOHNNY DAMON
Q: What do you think of your first McFarlane Toys figure?
A: I am blown away by it -- the quality and details are incredible -- as
good as any figurine I have ever seen -- and I am glad you made me catch the ball. For any fans who are curious, I do dive and hit the ground hard, but the ball stays in my Rawlings glove.
Q: How do you feel about the long hair and beard on your figure?
A: Well, that's what I look like -- so it should be there. I see my beard is very thick on the figure, and earlier last season, I did have it that thick. It's more closely trimmed these days -- but you nailed the look, no doubt.
Q: Any ideas for future figures?
A: Since I now shave my beard, remain clean-shaven for a while, then grow it back, I think you should have a clean-shaven version of the same figure ... or maybe even a detachable beard.
Q: Do you see these figures as fun collectibles for kids of all ages?
A: Definitely. There are so many different items out there -- and it's cool to see items that have your picture on it, or, are a likeness of you.
These figures though, are in a different league -- just great to look at and collect. I think it would be fun for collectors to assemble their favorite players and have them on their shelves, or their desks at work. I can't wait to give these figures to my twins.
I hope you can do another figure of me soon -- I'll be looking forward to seeing that ... I think a stretching pose like we do before BP or a game, with my hat off, would be cool.
