ALTAR BOYS HEADING TO THEATERS
Features Nearly 20 Minutes of McFarlane Animation
May 31, 2002
Though we've reported on Todd McFarlane Entertainment's work with Jodie Foster's The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys in the past, it's now time for a full-scale spawn.com push. That's right, the film - which features nearly 20 minutes of Todd McFarlane animation - is set to open in theaters on June 14.
Altar Boys is an independent film distributed by ThinkFilm and produced by Jodie Foster's Egg Pictures, based on the 1992 debut novel by Chris Fuhrman. Starring Kieran Culkin, Jena Malone, Jodie Foster, Emile Hirsch and Vincent D'Onofrio, this R-rated film is a coming-of-age drama from director Peter Care. The main characters are budding comic artists and the film uses the McFarlane comic-style animation as a storytelling device.
The movie made quite a splash at this year's Sundance Festival and is receiving quite a bit of good press and positive reviews. RES magazine in particular has a nice piece with director Care and Todd; you can read that here: http://www.res.com/feature-petecare.jsp.
In celebration of the theater openings nationwide, we're giving away passes to advance screenings of the film in New York and Los Angeles. The New York screening is Wednesday, June 5 and the LA screening is Tuesday, June 11. We have 25 admit-two passes for the New York screening and 50 for LA.
To enter, e-mail email@example.com with your full name as it apears on your driver's license and a phone number. In the subject line, you MUST specify LA or NY. Winners will be the first 25 complete entries received for NY and the first 50 complete entries for LA, so enter NOW! Please only enter if you live in or around those cities and can actually attend the screening, and only enter once.
If selected, your name will be on a list at the door and will be the name you provide. You will need to arrive at least half an hour before the screening, as a pass does not always guarantee a seat. You may be required to show ID at the door. You may bring one guest to the screening and there will be special giveaways. Winners will be contacted directly via the e-mail address they used to enter the contest and will be given the theatre location and screening time in the message; by June 3 for New York and by June 7 for Los Angeles.
Next week, look for a followup report from the glitzy press junket in Los Angeles attended by Todd McFarlane and all the principles from Altar Boys. For more information on the film, check out www.thedangerouslivesofaltarboys.net.
