April 12, 2002
You've no doubt read the rumors. They were true. McFarlane Toys is releasing two special-edition Team Canada hockey boxed sets.
Eight members of Team Canada 2002 will hit Wal-Mart Canada this June as action figures from McFarlane Toys, the Canadian Hockey Association and the National Hockey League Players' Association. Each box includes four players, each in Team Canada uniforms with authentic game equipment. Each set also includes a goal net and a special commemorative base for each player.
One set includes: Chris Pronger, No. 44; Curtis Joseph, No. 31; Steve Yzerman, No. 19; and Mario Lemieux, No. 66. The other set includes: Eric Lindros, No. 88; Martin Brodeur, No. 30; Joe Sakic, No. 91; and Paul Kariya, No. 9.
"As with most Canadians, I was ecstatic to see Team Canada climb to the heights it did during this past Winter Games," said McFarlane Toys founder Todd McFarlane, a Calgary native. "This is my chance to say thank you for all the thrills that the team delivered to us recently."
The Team Canada 2002 four-packs will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart Canada beginning in June. "We're pleased to celebrate Team Canada with these limited-edition hockey figures," said Frank Gorrie, toy buyer for Wal-Mart Canada. "Wal-Mart customers in every region of the country will have access to what will surely become prized collectors' items."
Canadian hockey fans should also keep their eyes peeled for more exclusives coming to different retailers later this year. More details here as they become available.
